אמנם נראה לומר, בהקדם מה שכתב התוספות יום טוב באבות (פ"ה מ"ה) על דברי המשנה ולא אירע קרי לכהן גדול ביום הכיפורים, וזה אחד מעשרה נסים שנעשו לאבותינו בבית המקדש, יש מי שהקשה, ולמה יארע לו קרי, אחר שהיו מזרזין אותו כל השבעה ימים וכו', וזקני העם כל הלילה לא יחשו מלזרזו, ומאי ניסא איכא בהא. והתשובה, כי היצר הטוב ויצר הרע מתקוטטים זה עם זה כשני אויבים, וכשאחד מהם קרוב להיות מנוצח, יתחזק על עמדו, בראותו כי כלתה אליו הרעה וכו'. ולזה היה קרוב מאד להיות הכהן גדול בעל קרי, דהתגברות השטן גדולה מאד עליו, כן כתב במדרש שמואל (שם מ"ד) בשם החסיד ז"ל, עכ"ל. ועל כן יחשב לנס אצל כהן גדול, אף על פי שאצל אדם פשוט לא יהיה בגדר נס, לפי שהשטן כשרואה ביום הכיפורים שקרוב להיות מנוצח, אז מתגבר בכל כוחותיו, אלא שמן השמים מסייעים לכהן גדול ועוזרים לו, ואלמלא הקב"ה עוזרו לא היה יכול לו, ושפיר הוי ניסא.<br />

וכמו כן בנס דחנוכה, שהיה מלחמת החשמונאים עם הפרוצים והיונים שרצו לעקור כל התורה כולה, וכשגברו החשמונאים הצדיקים נתגלה על ידם אור התורה, על כן היתה התגברות הס"מ גדולה מאד במלחמה ההיא והתגבר בכל כוחותיו, ובדרך הטבע אי אפשר לאדם להתגבר עליו, כמו שאמרו ז"ל (סוכה נב: קידושין ל:), וזה היה הנס בנצחון ההוא, לפי שנפלו טמאים ביד טהורים ורשעים ביד צדיקים וכו', והס"מ התגבר ועשה כל ההשתדלות שיהיה להיפך. ומעתה אתי שפיר מה שאומרין טמאים ביד טהורים ורשעים ביד צדיקים, כי לולא זאת לא היה נצחון דרבים ביד מעטים נס כלל, וכמו שכתב הפרי מגדים הנ"ל דנצחון המלחמה הוא דבר טבעי, אלא לפי שהיו טמאים ביד טהורים ורשעים ביד צדיקים, על כן נחשב נצחון דגבורים ביד חלשים ורבים ביד מעטים לנס. אמנם לפי שלא היה הנס הזה באיתגליא ואינו נס מפורסם, כי לא יכירו בני אדם התגברות השטן למעלה, ולא יוכר בזה כח הנס, ע"כ לא תקנו חז"ל לומר שעשה נסים רק על הנס דשמן, וקבעו שמונת ימי חנוכה על נס דשמן ולא על נס הנצחון, ותקנוה בהודאה דעל הנסים דהודי' מיהא בעי, כי חז"ל ידעו ברוח קדשם גודל התגברות השטן למעלה, ושהיה נס מאתו יתברך להתגבר עליו.<br />
